You’ll find in our store that we have these cable assemblies available both with and without molded boots. We also have a new, very unique Sentinel Boot. This boot is only available for custom build cables, but is definately worth it. As seen in the picture below, it is as narrow as the RJ45 connector to provide you with plenty of room in tight places. It is also easy on the thumbs, a huge benifit over traditional cat5 boots.

RFID’s (Radio Frequency Identification) have been around for 50 years. Up until recently though, they have gone widely unused. This is due to their hefty cost. In the last decade the most famous use for them commercially has probably been Wal-Mart’s announcements. But now a new player, Metro (Biggest retailer in Germany) announced that they have been using them, and saving a substantial amount of money doing so. About $10.1 Million dollars (or about 8.5million Euros). The current cost of building an RFID is roughly 14 Euro cents, which equates to roughly $0.17ea. (conversion help thanks to: Translatum)

So what’s the hold up now? Security issues. Folks from all walks of life are afraid this unit could be used to track people… people who perhaps didn’t want to be tracked.

You can find even more on RFID tags, including information on their inventor, at Wikipedia.

The small laptop, to save money, comes without many well known luxuries…such as hardisks and software. The idea behind the project is to get computers into the hands of more people in developing countries.

This announcement comes as Microsoft unveils it’s new mini-laptop.. the Microsoft Orgami. It’s a tablet sized PC:

But it comes with huge capabilities. MP3, gaming, GPS, TV, Camera… all on a 7 inch screen. Reports of the new PC’s prices range from $599 to $900.

The release of the product is to meet needs for those people who constantly need computer tools while ‘on the go.’ The goal of this device is an all-day battery charge. It also has built in wireless internet access.

First product review and it’s not even a cable. It, as seen in our store at the following link is our illuminated usb keyboard. The keyboard is called the Firefly Illuminated Keyboard by Manhattan. It has a sleek silver coloring and many hot buttons…such as volume, stop, play, pause, fast forward and reverse, sleep, power, mail, among others. It comes with controls to turn to EL light off as well.

The Good; size. While slightly smaller than my oem by Dell, it’s still large enough to be used without issue, and it will fit on any desk. The light is adequete and even kind of cool. I’m using mine right now to make this post and I have the light on. I keep checking it out while typing because it’s kinda cool… (so I’ll ask forgiveness for any typos now…). It’s really not to shabby.

The bad; the keys aren’t quite as dipped in as the ones on my Dell keyboard. Although I’m already getting adjusted to that. By the end of this post it probably won’t be an issue anymore. The last complaint is the spacebar. I’m used to a little more height in it. Although like I said, I’m adjusting already. Lastly, It is not at all compatible with PS/2. Not even with an adapter.
All in all, it’s been a customer favorite among our peripherals and I have yet to have someone return one do to poor construction. They seem to hold up pretty good.
